Darryl Williams Karate bio
Darryl Williams started karate in September 1970. He received his shodan (1st Degree) in1976. Since that time he has occupied every major karate position at home and abroad. Sensei Williams has represented Trinidad and Tobago more than twenty times as an official at regional and international karate events.
Currently he is a Special Adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Karate Federation and Vice President of the World United Karate Organizations (WUKO). He is as a WUKO international referee for kata and Kumite and one of WUKO Chief Referees. He teaches WUKO Referee courses in USA and the Caribbean. Williams was recently, ( Jan 2012) confirmed as WUKO Coordinator Referees. He is also the liaison for WUKO-USA and President of Pan American United Karate Organization (PUKO)
In addition to his many responsibilities he is also an American Sport Education Program (ASEP – Bronze Level) instructor for Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid courses. Sensei Williams is the Technical Director for Bassai Karate Dojo-International based in Orlando, Florida. He has member clubs in USA, Canada and the Caribbean.
His grades include 7th Dan-Shito-Ryu Karate ( ISKF/WUKO), 5th Dan –Kobudo and 4th Dan Ju-Jitsu (Japan). His instructors include Michael Jarette ( Trinidad and Tobago) Shogo Kuniba, Minobu Miki, Kenzo Mabuni and now Katsumi Okubo- ISKF –Japan)
He also serves as an adviser to many karate organizations Including Grenada Karate Federation, Guyana Karate Association, Sri Lanka Karate Association, WUKO-St. Lucia, Antigua Karate Association, Zanshin Karate Association (Canada), Wasei Kai Karate (Canada) and many in the USA. Many of his students have their own dojos and occupy leadership positions in the karate community as referees, coaches and managers.
